Church makes donation to Carson Tahoe Health Community Fund

Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church’s third annual rummage sale surpassed its goal. Its primary group to receive money has received its donation, which was more than they expected. Another Carson City group will share its success, according to outreach chair Janet Gordon. The church is making a donation in the amount of $500 to the Carson Tahoe Health Community Fund. Gordon said the church is always looking for a way to give back to the Carson City community.

The Carson Tahoe Health Community Fund provides for the most vulnerable people in the community. When patients in need are discharged from the hospital and they need a little extra help — a tank of gas, a grocery voucher, assistance with filling a prescription — they now have a place to turn.

Established by big-hearted local Dr. Rex Baggett, the community fund is intended to provide for needs that often go unmet. Through his years of serving the community in private practice and as a volunteer at the Ross Clinic, Baggett saw many patients choose between medical care and feeding their families. Others would decline critical procedures because a hospital stay came with the added expense of gas tank fillups, babysitters and time off without pay. Baggett resolved to do what he does best: provide care, heal wounds and deliver hope. He established the Carson Tahoe Health Community Fund to make sure patients could get the care and assistance they need.
