Carson City’s Michael Hohl on Thursday will launch the 2019 National Corvette Museum’s Corvette Caravan by welcoming participating Mid Pacific Central group Caravan Captain Don Herzer of Northern California.

The Museum, a nonprofit foundation in Bowling Green, Ky., celebrates its 25th anniversary this year by hosting the sixth National Corvette Caravan and welcoming Corvette owners from various American cities. The automotive event takes place every five years to mark the nonprofit’s milestone anniversaries.

The culmination leads to festivities at the Museum between Aug. 28 to 31 with owners convening at one of the nation’s top five automotive museums in Bowling Green.

“It’s a spectacle, especially for those unsuspecting motorists who get to experience a leg of the Caravan pass them by,” said Katie Ellison, the Museum’s director of marketing and communications. “We are fortunate to have loyal Corvette enthusiasts who serve as volunteer captains for this massive event. They spend years coordinating their trek across the country, planning fun stops along the way.”

The Museum opened in 1994 and has a member of more than 28,000 members and 230,000 visitors each year.

Herzer is preparing for his third caravan, this time in a 2019 Sebring Orange ZR1 announcing to every car that he meets that he is the captain of the Northern California Caravan. He first traveled with a Caravan in 2009 and served as a captain in 2014.

He will meet with Hohl, a sponsor of the Reno Corvettes Club for the past nine years, when he is expected to arrive at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, and then proceed to the Fallon Naval Air Station for a dinner hosted in the Officers Club. On Friday, the Caravan will begin its trek to Bowling Green on U.S. 50, and it is then scheduled to arrive Aug. 28 for the celebration at the Museum.
