Fallon man sentenced to NSP for attempted murder

A Fallon man was sentenced to prison Jan. 29 for the attempted murder of the Overland Hotel’s owner more than two years ago.

Carl Dennis Lemos heard his fate from 10th District Court Judge Thomas Stockard, who sentenced him to an aggregate sentence for a term ranging from 25.5 to 75 years in the Nevada State Prison.

The jury found Lemos guilty of attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon against a person 60 years of age or older, battery with a deadly weapon causing bodily harm to a victim 60 years of age or older and burglary with a firearm or deadly weapon.

On Nov. 16, 2016, Fallon Police said Lemos, who had previously been removed from the Overland, entered the hotel’s bar and assaulted owner David Barkley with a knife by trying to slit his throat. Paramedics treated Barkley and took him to Banner Churchill Community Hospital before he was transported to Renown Medical Center in Reno where he was treated for cuts on his neck.
