The federal Housing and Urban Development Department has awarded Nevada more than $14 million in grants for local homeless housing and service programs.

Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto said the money will support programs in Washoe County and rural communities as well as Clark County. She said the grants will go to critical support agencies for individuals and families struggling with homelessness.

The bulk of the money, $13 million, will go to Clark County. Another $1.4 million goes to Washoe County and $474,000 to rural communities.
