Silver Springs man sentenced for three murders

A Silver Springs man has been sentenced to life without parole in a case involving the murder of a woman in which he had a relationship and her parents.

It was announced on Wednesday that Scott Baskette, 50, of Silver Springs and McKinleyville, Calif., was sentenced to life without parole and 8 to 20 years in Nevada State Prison on three counts of first degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon, each count consecutive to the other.

Baskette pleaded guilty Jan. 24 to killing Rebecca Lea Driver, 47, and her parents, Frank Leroy Evans, 68, and Coral Dixene Evans, 66, all of Silver Springs.

Early on Oct. 7, 2017, Baskette went to the home of Frank and Coral Evans. When Frank answered the door, Baskette shot him. Baskette then went in the house and shot Coral. He took their cell phones and lured Rebecca home from Reno.

When Rebecca arrived at home, he shot her while Rebecca’s disabled daughter was in the next room in the house. Rebecca and Baskette had been in a relationship since 2006.

Following a two-day sentencing hearing, the district court imposed the life without parole sentence for each murder and the maximum for the weapon enhancement.

Lyon County District Attorney Stephen Rye stated: “Justice was served in this case. The district judge carefully considered the evidence and handed down the appropriate sentence for the victims and the community. The facts of this case were tragic and horrific, with three innocent victims being brutally murdered.”

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office detective division led the investigation, with assistance from the patrol division, Nevada Division of Investigations and the Washoe County Sheriff FIS.

Stephen B. Rye and Brian Haslem of the Lyon County District Attorney’s office prosecuted the case.
