Nevada officials join call to protect Dreamers

Gov. Steve Sisolak and Attorney General Aaron Ford have both joined the more than 500 state and local elected officials across the nation calling on Congress to pass permanent protections and a path to citizenship for Dreamers and Temporary Protected Status holders.

Sisolak said one in five Nevada residents are immigrants who contribute to the state’s economy and cultural diversity.

“It’s long past time that Dreamers and TPS holders in Nevada and across the country stop being forced to live in fear and uncertainty,” he said.

Ford said the average DACA recipient came to the U.S. at age 6 and the average TPS holder has been in the country for 22 years. He said the bipartisan message is supported by elected leaders at the state and local level across the country.

“Together, we’re standing up for these vulnerable individuals and sending a message to Congress that they should no longer live in fear and uncertainty,” he said.
