The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $2 million for improvements to the Battle Mountain airport.

Nevada Democratic Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen announced the grant Thursday saying the money will reconstruct the airport apron.

“With many Nevadans living hours form the closest hospital, it’s key to invest in our airport infrastructure to protect Nevadans in emergencies and keep businesses running smoothly day to day,” they said in a joint statement.

The funding was awarded through the department’s Airport Improvement Program.
