A 92-year-old woman was killed Tuesday evening in a three-car crash at Airport Road and Highway 50.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Hannah DeGoey said the preliminary investigation shows a blue 2000 Impala heading eastbound on the highway failed to yield to the red light.

It entered the intersection, striking a white Hyundai Santa Fe that was heading north on Airport Road and a silver Honda Odyssey that was heading south.

Virginia Baronian, 92, of Carson City was in the front passenger seat of the Impala and wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. She was ejected when the vehicle overturned and was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital.

Some lanes of U.S. 50 were closed for more than four hours after the 6 p.m. crash as NHP investigators processed the scene.

NHP initially thought that four vehicles were involved and that a blue Chevy Tahoe fled the scene, but DeGoey said the Chevy pickup truck wasn’t involved in the crash.

She said investigators are asking any witnesses to the crash who have any information to contact NHP investigative team at ncwmirt@dps.state.nv.us.
