Prep roundup: Carson High cross country at regionals, football at Reno

Saturday at Shadow Mountain Park in Sparks, the Carson High cross country teams took part in the Class 5A Northern Nevada Regional meet.
Reno won both the boys and girls races as a team while Carson was fifth on the girls’ side with 129 points.
Junior McKenna Budd and freshman Ella Dooley were the first two Senator runners to cross the line, finishing in ninth and 10th, respectively.
Julia Kaiser was 27th for Carson in 24:01 while Sydney Romero and Samantha Schofield finished in 25:28 and 27:51, respectively.
The Senator boys cross country team completed the race with 134 points, taking sixth of nine teams.
Walker MacKenzie and Ethan Bauerle were the top two harriers for the boys’ team, taking 18th and 19th, respectively.
Sophomore Dominic Valdez finished in 18:51 to take 24th for the Senators while Jacob Crossman was 32nd in 19:28.
Carson freshmen Aiden Fredlund (41st), Andrew Ingram (44th) and Eric Billings (49th) were the final three Senator runners to round out the results.


Reno cruises over Carson football
Friday afternoon’s bowl game against Reno High School didn’t go the way the Senators expected.
After the first play of the second quarter, the Huskies had cemented a 28-0 lead on the way to a 48-13 win.
Reno was able to take advantage of a couple of Carson turnovers in the first half and turn them into trips to the end zone.
Carson ends the shortened spring season with an 0-5 record.
