PRESCRIPTION DISPOSAL Members of the Churchill County Sheriff's Office will be set up in the parking lot of Walgreens, located at the intersection of West Williams Avenue and Allen Road between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. CCSO will be accepting unused medications for proper disposal to avoid a potentially dangerous and tragic incident of the drugs getting into unintended hands. FIRE HYDRANT TESTING The city of Fallon’s annual fire hydrant testing runs through April 30. The city and Fallon Churchill Volunteer Fire Department will be testing fire hydrants during the evenings through the end of the month. The annual testing is vital to ensure the system is functioning properly. This is one of the requirements the fire department must complete in order to maintain its ISO Class 1 rating. During this period of peak fire demand water testing, it is common for water consumers to experience discolored water. The discoloration occurs due to abnormally high flows in the piping system, which can stir up small amounts of naturally occurring sediment. Although the water may be discolored, it has been properly treated and is entirely safe. If the water is heavily discolored, residents may wish to temporarily refrain from drinking or washing clothes. After testing is complete, any discolored water in your home can usually be removed by flushing your water pipes for several minutes. It is best to flush cold water from an outdoor hose bib or an interior bathtub fixture. For questions, contact the City Clerk’s office at 775-423-5104.

US HIGHWAY 95 CLOSED U.S. Highway 95 will be closed between Fallon and Schurz for reconstruction between April 19-29. The major north-south highway will be closed between the Fallon landfill (one-and-a-half miles south of Top Gun Raceway) and the rodeo grounds north of Schurz as crews reconstruct a section of highway. When the highway opens on April 29 through approximately May 9, NDOT said traffic delays of up to 30 minutes will be in place. Pilot cars will detour alternating directions of traffic through the work zone and crews finalize reconstruction. Alternate routes are through Gabbs on State Route 361 or through Yerington on Alternate U.S. 95. DIXIE VALLEY ROAD Dixie Valley Road (State Route 121) east of Fallon is transitioning from a paved to gravel road as NDOT removes and pulverizes the aging asphalt surface through the end of April. Drivers will see single lane closures on the road between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays as the roadway is pulverized. A pilot car will alternate directions of traffic through the work zone.
