Fallon slips past Fernley 4-3

Fallon’s Cooper Lee singled with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning Wednesday to give Fallon a 4-3 win at home in Northern 3A East baseball.


With one out, Brady Alves reached base on an error followed by Bryce Adams’ single. Steve Moon singled to load the bases.


Fernley pitcher Jacob Bigrigg, who entered the game in relief in the seventh inning, then struck out Matt Davis. Lee then jumped on the first pitch for a single to shortstop that scored Alves.


Fallon improves to 4-1 and now plays at Fernley in a Saturday doubleheader that begins at 11 a.m. Larry Barker, Voice of the Greenwave, will broadcast the games on KKTU 99.5 FM and Network 1 Sports.

Fallon jumped on Fernley pitching for 11 hits and took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.


With runners at first and second base, third baseman Avery Strasdin ripped a double to score a run.


In the visitor half of the third inning, Tucker Hall scored on a passed ball, Ryan Gamsby raced home on a wild pitch and Birrigg singled with the bases loaded to put Fernley on top.


The Greenwave tied the game in the fourth inning. Francisco Tapia tripled in a run, and Davis’ sacrifice fly knotted the game at 3.


Neither team could gain any momentum until the bottom of the eighth inning when the Wave scored the game-winning win.


Damien Towne earned the win in relief. Over two innings, he allowed no hits and struck out five. Tyler Austin began the game and pitched for six innings. He struck out eight but allowed seven walks.
