Carson City could see smoke from California wildfires clear out by Wednesday – but Monday and Tuesday could be hazardous, according to the National Weather Service.
The NWS has a heat advisory posted until 11 p.m. Monday, followed by a fire weather watch posted for most of Tuesday.
The fire weather watch Tuesday afternoon to evening has been posted as winds are expected from southwest 15 to 20 mph with gusts to around 35 mph. Higher gusts are possible in wind-prone areas and along exposed terrain, the NWS said. Humidity is expected to be between 5 and 15 percent.
The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
Barring catastrophe before then, Wednesday should dawn clear and cooler, with a high in the middle 80s and an overnight low in the 40s.
High temperatures are forecast in the low 90s through the weekend.
