Attorney General Aaron Ford issued a warning Thursday about scammers attempting to get personal information of Nevadans by using the Child Tax Credit program.
He said it will likely happen in an attempt to steal a consumer’s personal information. He said typically the scammer reaches out asking to verify your information in order to receive the payments. None of that information, he said, is needed to receive payments from the IRS.
IRS officials simply use information from 2019 and 2020 tax returns to automatically enroll parents for payments.
For those who haven’t filed a tax return or aren’t required to, they can go to IRS.gov and provide basic information to get the Child Tax Credit.
