Tom Riggins: And so it begins

There is a huge sigh of relief in Washington, D.C. The status quo can now return to plundering the government. I’m sorry, I meant to say running Washington. I tried to be open-minded about the new Obama regime (excuse me, I meant to say Biden administration) but it didn’t take long for “wait and see” to become “See, it’s happening.” I am not talking about the administration itself, but the utter hypocrisy of its actions.

Biden is engaging in typical Democrat sleight of hand. That is, he says something like needing to unify the country, then takes action in a manner intended to divide it. In October, he said on ABC that democracy needs consensus and those who govern by executive orders are dictators. In his first week in office, he has signed 24 executive orders and 37 executive actions, more than any other president in that time frame.

One of those was to, impose travel and COVID-19 test restrictions on people, including U.S. citizens, flying in from other countries. The other was to halt construction on the border wall and allow illegal entry into the U.S. So you can’t fly into the country without COVID-19 tests but you can walk in without consequence.

Biden medical adviser Dr. Fauci announced that we should now wear two masks instead of one. Then he doubled down and said wearing three masks is just common sense. Isn’t an admission that masks don’t work? If three masks are common sense, where does it end? Five masks? Ten? Twenty?

How about Biden’s new press secretary, Jen Psake? This woman (I assume, no gender statement has been made) has yet to give a straight answer to any meaningful question. She is like the Gumby of old, the rubber doll you could twist into odd shapes. It has gotten so bad that the press must now submit their questions in advance. So much for open and honest. Isn’t that a First Amendment violation?

We now have an armed military presence at the Capitol building. Are the legislators so afraid of their constituents that they must be protected from them? Or is this more of a message of “Don’t mess with us.” There is now talk of a permanent fence around the Capitol. Wait. A fence is needed to protect lawmakers but no fence is necessary on the borders? I have a suggestion for Texas. When you detain an illegal, put them on public transportation to Washington, D.C. And what happened to being able to face your elected representatives? Oh, we can’t do that in our state, either. How convenient for them, not having to deal face to face with us riffraff.

The most important item to pay attention to is the Democrat intent to eliminate any voice that those opposing them may have. Several lawmakers have stated that Trump supporters need “reeducated.” It started with many conservative talk show hosts being told to tone down their rhetoric. Then came the attacks in Congress on anyone not going along with the agenda. This includes Sens. Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley, as well as recently stripping Rep. Marjorie Greene of her committee assignments. This is due to supposedly dangerous rhetoric. I wonder when they will go after Maxine Waters, who has done more to incite violence than any Republican.

Combine this with a concerted effort to censor and remove any posts to Facebook Twitter, and YouTube negative to the Democrat agenda. Thousands of private accounts have been temporarily or permanently blocked from these platforms. Let the reeducation begin. And don’t forget that the left will try to overwhelm any opposition through investigations of bogus allegations, IRS audits, and lawsuits, all funded by taxpayers.

There is some hope. Remember in my last column where a respected newsletter author stated that he expected the country to fracture? That may be in its infancy. North Dakota introduced legislation to its state legislature. It orders its Attorney General to review the constitutionality of Biden’s executive orders and if deemed unlawful, to prohibit any state or county agency or publicly funded organization from enforcing such orders. Another one proposed a “Committee on Neutralization of Federal Laws” to recommend whether a law is unconstitutional. South Dakota has similar proposals in process.

If Biden continues to divide the country into factions, states like North Dakota seem willing to aid him. Republican lawmakers who sign on with Democrat actions will most likely be ousted. Too bad our state is run by liberals.
