1 of 2 victims of Elko shooting dies; suspect still loose

ELKO — The search for a man accused of shooting two people in Elko has now become a search for a homicide suspect.

Elko police say one of the victims of Thursday morning's shooting at a trailer park has died.

The say 32-year-old Matthew Allen Baze of Elko died at a Utah hospital on Friday from gunshot wounds.

Police continue to look for 30-year-old Austin William Himmelman of Elko. They say he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Himmelman is accused of shooting Blaze and a woman who's name has not been released at the trailer park on the city's south side at 10:17 a.m. Thursday. The woman underwent surgery for a bullet wound and is recovering.

Himmelman is described as a white male adult, 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing 220 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Police were called to scene of the shooting at 10:17 a.m. Thursday. Officers found Baze in front of a mobile home, and the female shooting victim inside a trailer.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports Himmelman has been arrested before on charges including trafficking a controlled substance, owning or possessing a gun by a prohibited person, and injury to personal property.
