SPARKS — A homicide suspect in a double shooting in Elko last week has been arrested in Sparks.

Sparks police say federal agents from the U.S. Marshals Service, Reno police and Washoe County sheriff's office joined in the arrest of 30-year-old Austin William Himmelman of Elko shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday.

He was apprehended just north of U.S. Interstate 80 in the 2400 block of Victorian Avenue at the intersection of Prater Way near a Motel 6 and the Pony Express Motel.

Himmelman is wanted on a homicide warrant out of Elko in the Jan. 7 fatal shooting of 32-year-old Matthew Allen Baze at a trailer park. A woman also was shot and is recovering from her wounds.

So far, Sparks police say Himmelman has only been charged with possession of a gun by a prohibited person but an investigation is continuing and more charges are expected.

Washoe County jail records don't yet show Himmelman as an inmate there and it's not clear if he has a lawyer.

The Elko Daily Free Press reported earlier Himmelman was arrested in the past on charges including trafficking a controlled substance, owning or possessing a gun by a prohibited person, and injury to personal property.
