Carson City Symphony Association has appointed Richard “Ricky” Hutton as director of Carson Chamber Singers.

His connection with the Carson Chamber Singers goes back to the summer of 2019, when he directed the Singers in the June Pops Party concert in Carson City and the July 4 concert in Genoa. During 2020, he also designed and produced two virtual performance projects with the group.

Hutton is in his fifth year as choral director at Spanish Springs High School, where he is the Fine Arts Department chair. He served as an interim choral director for the Reno Philharmonic Chorus, artistic director of the Reno Baroque Ensemble, and is the Nevada Music Educators Association's Washoe zone representative.

Hutton holds a Master of Music in Choral Conducting degree, with distinction, from the Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, N.J. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Philosophy with a minor in Bioethics, magna cum laude, from Loyola University in Chicago.

The next Carson Chamber Singers’ virtual performance project includes two short, connected pieces, Songs from Silence by Elaine Hagenberg, and an Italian madrigal by Monteverdi.

Hutton said, “Hagenberg dedicated her work to the choral community in hope of healing during times of silence and distance. It is very accessible and lovely. The Monteverdi madrigal, Longe da te cor mio (Far from you, my heart), has a similar ‘pining’ sentiment.”

Rehearsals begin Tuesday, Jan. 26, on Zoom. Carson Chamber Singers information and registration/application form are available on the Symphony website at http://ccsymphony.com/ccsingers.htm or by calling the Carson City Symphony Association at 775-883-4154.

The 2020-2021concert season is supported by grants from the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts, the Carson City Cultural Commission, and by private donations.
