Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford said Friday that three bills he requested this legislative session will enhance consumer protections in Nevada, including AB61 that prohibits price gouging during times of emergency.
The measure defines price gouging as selling or renting goods or services at rates grossly in excess of normal prices. The statute applies when the governor declares a state of emergency.
The measure also enhances penalties for fraud, tightens the ban on robocalling and enhances penalties for conduct targeting minors younger than 17.
Also passed and signed by the governor is AB47 that provides the AG’s office some oversight on healthcare transactions that affect Nevada’s healthcare market and prohibits non-compete agreements from being imposed on hourly workers.
Finally, Ford said SB62 strengthens laws against organizations that claim they are collecting donations for charitable causes, requiring them to register with the Secretary of State’s office as a tax-exempt organization and provide information about how any donations will be used.
