Carson High football coach Blair Roman was able to find bright spots from the Senators’ 43-7 loss to Reed last Friday.
Though the final score indicates a 36-point loss, Carson trailed 21-7 at halftime after scoring on the last drive of the opening half.
“I think it was a great experience for a lot of our kids,” said Roman. “There were some real bright spots. … We had some opportunities during the first half to show ourselves much better than the final score indicated.”
Reed put together a 22-0 third quarter to put the game out of reach.
“We had a couple of really nice performances,” said Roman.
Ben Heaton had six tackles at middle linebacker for the Senators.
Jacob Campbell put together 47 yards rushing and a touchdown reception from Vinnie Ferretti.
“We had a couple of pretty nice completions to Decarlo Quintana,” added Roman. “There were some bright spots we were really happy to see.”

Welcoming the Miners to town
It’ll be the first time football fans will be welcome in the Carson High bleachers since the 2019 fall season.
Playing at home always has significance for coach Roman.
“Being able to play at home is always a special thing. I don’t care if it’s in front of 100 fans, … or 3,000 fans,” said Roman, “It’s a special thing to do and I think everyone is looking forward to that opportunity.”
The Miners' connection between Drew Scolari and Cort Ballinger has already proven to be lethal for the Bishop Manogue in two games this year.
Last week against Douglas, Scolari tossed a 42-yard strike to Ballinger before the senior wideout returned two punts for touchdowns.
Scolari signed his National Letter of Intent to join the Wolf Pack in May of 2020.
Keeping the Miners’ explosive athletes contained will be a must for the Senators to remain competitive.
“As highly ranked and as talented as Manogue is, we’re going to go in and compete and we’re going to try and win,” said Roman. “With such a young team, you’re building for something down the road. … A lot of it has to do with attitude.”
