The annual Soroptimist Home and Garden Show returns for its 20th year this weekend at the Fallon Convention Center.
Cancelled last year because of the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s 20th annual Soroptimist Home and Garden Show aims to put residents and visitors in the mood to improve their homes as well as themselves.
This year’s show at the Fallon Convention Center is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Suggested donation is $1 per adult. Face masks and social distancing is required.
“We have vendors inside and outside — many outside due to COVID restrictions,” said Marcia Vinson of the Soroptimist International of Fallon. “We will have several raffle sales during the event and will be drawing for them on Sunday afternoon.”
Inspired by temperatures expected to climb into the 80s, the spring-like weather should put attendees in the mood to see what ideas are out there this year for improving the home or self.
This year’s vendors include Lattin Farms, Workman Farms, J&K Llamas, The village, Anytime Gifts by Gail, Berney Realty, Sierra Enterprises, Western Nevada College, Damsel in Defense Reno-vation Inc., Churchill County Museum, Dream-One of a Kind, Needle in a Haystack, Quality First Home Improvement, Susan’s Homemade Aprons-Bags-Gifts, Argenta Phantom Screens, TOPS, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1012 Auxiliary, Churchill Community Coalition, Pirates with Soles, CC Communications, Desert Owl Crafts, Seacris (health and wellness), At Your Service and the Boy Scouts with chips and drinks.
Vinson said more applications are coming in for the two-day show, and Auntie's Indian Tacos is bringing their food truck.
Events for the children include Face Painting by Ivy and the Churchill County 4-H Poultry Club.
Soroptimist International is an organization for women donating their time and talents to doing what is best for women and girls in the community. Local projects supported by proceeds from the Home and Garden Show have been directed to the Pioneer Park on North Maine Street, the William N. Pennington Life Center, the Frances Aguirre Memorial scholarship for a graduating high-school girl, and the Live Your Dream Award for a single mother finishing her education.
