Dayton rally nips Fallon in Northern 3A baseball

Dayton scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning Wednesday to cap a come-from-behind 7-6 win against Fallon in a Northern 3A East baseball game at the Edward Arciniega Athletic Complex.
Francisco Tapia entered the game in relief for the Greenwave with one out in the seventh. Trailing by a run, the visiting Dust Devils tied the game on Tyler Stolfich’s RBI single to left field. Tapia struck out the next batter, but an error allowed Stolfich to advance to third. On a 2-2 pitch, Broc Strong singled to left field.
Stolfich entered the game in relief with one out in the home half of the seventh inning and recorded a ground out and strike out to preserve the win.
The Dust Devils improved to 11-3 to maintain first place in the Northern 3A East with Fernley in second at 10-5 and Fallon third at 8-5. Dayton hosts Fallon in a doubleheader on Saturday with the first game beginning at 11 a.m. KKTU 99.5 FM and Network 1 Sports will broadcast the games.
The Greenwave jumped on Dayton for three runs in the bottom of the second inning after Steve Moon hit an inside-the-park home run deep to center field to clear the bases.
In the top of the fourth, the Dust Devils jumped on Fallon for five runs.
Stolfich doubled home a run to cut Fallon’s lead to 3-1. Pitcher Trevor Austin loaded the bases, and Carter Shuck hit a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to a run. An infield error tied the game. Jacob Moore doubled in the go-ahead run and eventually scored on an error.
Fallon responded in the bottom of the fourth inning. Isaiah Diaz hit an RBI single to score Austin opened the inning with a double. Moon ripped in his fourth run of the game to tie the score at 5. Matt Davis lifted a sacrifice fly to give Fallon a 6-5 lead.
