Metro Carwash, a prospective Carson City business, will go before the Board of Supervisors on Thursday afternoon to hear an appeal of their water use application.
In September the Growth Management Commission approved their application for 29,500 gallons of water per day, reduced from their original request for 46,000 gpd. Their competitor, Sierra Car Wash, filed the appeal, saying 29,500 gpd is still too high and is “an inappropriate use of Carson City’s limited water resources.”
Metro’s owner and operator Ernie Ionno disagrees.
In an email correspondence with the Appeal, he said, “Metro is not requesting an inappropriate amount of water. Metro is simply requesting enough water to wash .033 percent of the average daily traffic count on S. Carson St., which is a standard capture rate metric in the professional car wash industry and our anticipated capture rate in year three.”
The average car wash in Carson City uses approximately 9,300 gpd, with a high of 14,900 gpd. Metro’s proposed site is less than a quarter mile away from Sierra Car Wash, and it has its own well that Metro reserved the right to access in the conditions of the application.
The supervisors will decide whether to uphold Growth Management’s approval of 29,500 gpd at 1:30 p.m., after they have heard their other agenda items.
Among those other agenda items, the board will:
• Discuss and possibly authorize city staff to perform due diligence to convey 2.9 acres along Butti Way to Oikos Development for PalaSeek’s affordable housing project.
• Hear a presentation from the Nevada Chapter of the American Public Works Association awarding Carson City “Transportation Project of the Year” for the South Carson Complete Streets project.
• Hear a presentation from the Nevada Rural Counties Retired & Senior Volunteer Program to update the board on the services that RSVP provides to Carson City seniors and disabled adults.
• Discuss and possibly extend the deadline for Phase II of Sierra Skyways’ final subdivision map along 2600 E. College Parkway.
The supervisors will meet at 8:30 a.m. in the Robert “Bob” Crowell Board Room at the Community Center on 851 E. William St.
