Carson City residents and visitors are encouraged to avoid the courthouse on Musser Street this Saturday, Oct. 9. City agencies including the Fire department, Sheriff’s office, Department of Alternative Sentencing, and Juvenile Services will be conducting a day-long “Active Shooter Response” training.

The training is intended to integrate personnel from various agencies in Carson City and neighboring jurisdictions to an actual active shooter or other critical incident to be better prepared. Additionally, this exercise will allow courthouse officers and clerical employees to test their training and safety procedures.

The First Judicial District Court, Carson City Justice/Municipal Court, the District Attorney, Clerk/Recorder, and multiple Fire and Law Enforcement agencies from area jurisdiction will be participating in this exercise.
Citizens play a critical role in creating a safe environment by observing the reporting any suspicious and criminal activity to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office recommends that citizens do not participate in any direct verbal or physical involvement with suspicious person or those who are committing crimes. The personal safety of the community is paramount.

All are encouraged to avoid the area around the courthouse to allow this simulated active assailant exercise to test the skills and capabilities of emergency medical and law enforcement response.
