Laura Freed will vacate the office as director of the Department of Administration in January.

She said in an email Tuesday that Gov.-elect Joe Lombardo has decided not to reappoint her to that post and will be selecting a new director for what is one of the state’s most diverse and complex departments.

She has been director for almost three years. But she advised her division heads that she doesn’t expect any of them will be replaced by the new administration.

“All I can say is it has been an enormous privilege to serve as director and that I will miss the work and miss you all,” she said in an email to her division heads and staff.

The department consists of 11 divisions in charge of functions as varied as information technology and fleet services, interdepartmental mail, purchasing and risk management to the state library.

Freed has a long history of state service including as a budget analyst and an analyst with the Legislative Counsel Bureau’s fiscal division. She did not indicate what her plans are.

Lombardo has not announced any planned changes in departmental leadership in the executive branch.
