The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for all of western Nevada starting Thursday at 11 a.m. and lasting through 10 p.m. Saturday, with temperatures not expected to drop back to the low 90s until Monday.
Near record high temperatures of 99 to 104 are forecast Thursday through Saturday, with overnight lows of 65 to 75 that are “well above normal,” the NWS said in the advisory posted at weather.gov. All of western Nevada and northeast California is covered by the advisory.
“High risk of health impacts for much of the population, especially those without sufficient cooling or hydration resources, and those outdoors for extended periods of time,” the advisory said. “While daytime high temperatures will be near or above records, limited overnight cooling will exacerbate heat health impacts especially for those without air conditioning.
“Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.”
