The annual National Vietnam War Veterans Day ceremony in Carson City is scheduled for March 26 at 5 p.m., at Mills Park.
A solemn ceremony will remember the 151 Nevada servicemen and women who died as a result of the Vietnam War. The event is sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans Association, Carson City Chapter 989.
The actual observance for the National Vietnam War Veterans Day is March 29.
In Reno, the annual Vietnam Veterans Remembrance Day Ceremony sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans Association, Sierra Nevada Chapter 989, is set for March 27 at the Reno Elks Lodge.
Doors open at 1 p.m. followed by the ceremony beginning at 2 p.m. The Patriot Guard Riders will lay a wreath.
This year’s theme is Honor Nevada’s Fallen from Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan with a special tribute to Gold Star Families.
The event features four speakers from three wars and the Gold Star families.
Retired First Lt. Andy LePeilbet served during the Vietnam War and has been awarded the Silver Star, Distinguished Service Cross, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Air Medal and the Department of the Army Commendation medal. His unit also received the Cross of Gallantry with Palm award, the Presidential Unit Citation with one Oak Leaf Custer, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm and the Civil Action Honor Medal.
Col. Jerome Guerrero served during Operation Iraqi Freedom and is the director of personnel for the Nevada Army National Guard. He oversees the operations for multiple departments to include personnel management, recruiting, family programs and medical readiness.
Retired Capt. Sam Brown of Reno is a U.S. Military Academy graduate and was severely wounded in Afghanistan in 2005 due to an IED explosion. He is currently a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate.
Steve Ward, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, is a Gold Star father. His son Eric, who was a Marine serving in Afghanistan, died in 2010 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province.
