Carson High boys swimming just missed out on its second consecutive regional title over the weekend, taking second place in the Class 5A regional swim meet.
The Senators finished three points behind regional champion, Reno, 357-354.
Despite missing out on a regional title, Carson had a number of noteworthy performances and a regional record to add to the books.
Nick Melsheimer posted a regional record in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 50 seconds even, edging out Reno’s Ian Belflower by four-tenths of a second.
The Senator senior was also the regional champ in the 200-yard freestyle, winning by nearly four seconds.
Senior Benjamin Kahue led the 200-yard medley relay to a first place finish while Cole Bennett took second in the 50-yard freestyle.
Bennett and Austin Shim were second and third, respectively, in the 100-yard freestlye for Carson.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Kahue was second to touch the wall in 54.47.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Bennett, Kahue, Shim and Melsheimer took home the title in 1:28.99 while the 400-yard freestyle, led by Asher Kiel, also took first place.
The Senator girls’ swimmers took home fifth as a team with 222 total points over the weekend event.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Alexandra Llamas-Cruz and Talia Thornburg were third and fourth for Carson.
Thornburg also helped lead the Senators’ 400-yard freestyle to a third place finish 3:49.35.
