Carson softball closes season in regional tournament
After falling into the consolation bracket, Carson High softball saw its season come to a close with a 5-1 loss to McQueen.
With the loss, the Senators’ season comes to an end with a 17-15 overall record.
Carson will lose four seniors to graduation in Caydee Farnworth, Kayce Johnston, Shannen von Duering and Kennedy Redican.
In the circle this season, Farnworth tossed 147.1 innings with 235 strikeouts while posting an ERA of 3.66.
Johnston ends the year near the top in the state in home runs with nine after hitting .422 at the plate and having 21 extra base hits.
Senior middle infielder von Duering departs with a .302 batting average, seven doubles a triple and a home run while Redican had three RBIs at the dish and spent a majority of her time toward the end of the season behind the plate as catcher.
“I thought we had the horses to get where we are at,” said Carson High head coach Scott Vickrey. “They have a phenomenal set of leadership. Their presence has been tremendous. I’ve coached a lot of years, but this senior class is probably one of the top classes I’ve had the pleasure of coaching.”
Sierra Lutheran baseball bounced from regional play
The Falcon baseball team opened up Class 1A regional play Friday morning with a 10-0 loss to Wells.
In the consolation bracket, Sierra Lutheran posted a forfeit against Smith Valley to end its season, per the NIAA website.
The Falcons end the year with an 11-9 record.
Junior Charles Gagen led the team with a .568 batting average while senior Wesley Simpson posted a team-high 24 RBIs with a .452 batting average.
