Fallon junior Hannah Benjamin led the team in last week’s home tournament against the Northern 3A schools.
The Lady Wave tennis team qualified for the Northern 3A regional tournament after clinching the No. 4 seed with a 4-2-1 record.
Fallon hosts Hug on Monday at 3 p.m. at the Edward Arciniega Athletic Complex.
The Lady Wave defeated the Hawks, 11-7, during the regular season. Fallon picked up two forfeits during the season but both losses were close. Fallon fell to No. 2 Wooster and No. 3 South Tahoe by the same score, 11-7. Fallon did not play No. 1 Truckee. }
If Fallon beats Hug on Monday, it will travel to Truckee for a 3 p.m. semifinal battle on Wednesday. The regional championship is Oct. 14.
The Greenwave boys team did not qualify for the playoffs, finishing with a 2-5 record, including one postponement.
Fallon was half a game from qualifying but both North Tahoe and Wooster defeated the short-handed Greenwave during the regular season. Fallon’s wins came over Incline (forfeit) and Sparks, 12-6.
Volleyball
Oasis Academy’s volleyball team split its two matches last week, sweeping ROP on Tuesday before falling in straight games to Sierra Lutheran on Saturday.
The Bighorns defeated ROP 25-17, 25-19 and 27-25, but fell to Sierra Lutheran 17-25, 13-25 and 18-25.
The Lady Wave volleyball team is still searching for its first league win after losing to Fernley in four games on Wednesday and Dayton in three on Saturday.
Fallon lost to its cross-valley rival 21-25, 19-25, 25-16 and 18-25 in Fernley. In Saturday’s loss to the Dust Devils, Fallon fell 17-25, 23-25 and 9-25. Fallon travels to Elko County this week before returning home next week to begin the second half of the 3A East schedule.
Girls golf
The Lady Wave, who is mostly inexperienced, finished second to last in a pair of tournaments last week.
Hannah Benjamin was the top golfer for Fallon in its own tournament on Tuesday, carding a 103, followed by Charissa Chenoweth with a 119. Madison Gregory finished with a 135 and Megan Johnson followed with a 139.
Fallon competed in Winnemucca the day before when Chenoweth led the team with a 108. Benjamin finished with a 115, Gregory had a 130 and Johnson ended with a 139.
Cross country
Oasis Academy competed in last Tuesday’s Reed Invitational, a 5,000-meter run in Sparks.
Freshman Matthew Bird finished the course in 22 minutes, 58 seconds in the varsity division. In the JV division, freshman Jay Frederick ran it in 30:18 followed by freshmen Trevor Dunlap, 39:23, and Chase Ackerman, 42:31.
Freshman Kayla Greenberg ran the varsity girls race in 43:59.
Soccer
The Lady Wave won their first game of the season, 2-1 over Fernley on Thursday after falling to Wooster on Monday, 4-2.
The Greenwave boys were shut out by Fernley, 2-0, on Thursday.
