The Lowry High School track and field team enjoyed nice weather this past Saturday for its annual home invitational and had a number of athletes turn in strong performances.
Junior Nomar Aguirre swept the throwing events with a pair of personal bests. He threw the discus 165 feet, 10.50 inches and the shot put 59-9.50.
Shaun Gilliland won the pole vault by clearing the bar at 12-0.
Teammates Kaid Sanchez (11-6), Shane Gilliland (11-0), Brent Kenison (10-6) and Carson Primeax (8-6) were second, third, fourth and ninth, respectively.
Kenison placed third in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-4, with Shane Gilliland placing seventh at 5-0.
Primeax placed sixth in the long jump at 17-3 and Kenison was eighth (17-1) and Corbin Berezat (31-9) and Austin White (31-1-) were eighth and ninth in the triple jump. In addition, White was 10th in the high jump with a mark of 4-8.
Jesse Jeronimo was the runner-up in the shot put with a toss of 42-1.50, with teammate Ryan Arrien was sixth with a toss of 37-0.50.
Arrien placed 10th in the discus at 101.5.50 and Jonathan Moser placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 107-11.50, a personal best for the freshman.
Ryder Huitt finished second in the 400 meters with a time of 52.03, while Berezay was ninth at 100.42. In addition, Huitt was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles at 48.63. Senior Ryan Utterback placed fifth in the 200 meters in a time of 24.04.
Jace Frydendall (6:07.57) and Lennox Zebroski (6:10.81) set personal bests in the 1,600 meters to finish 11th and 12th, respectively. Frydendall placed 13th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:50.21.
The 4x400 relay of Conner Nelson, Berezay, Rogelio Hernandez and Huitt were second with a time of 4:12.57.
On the girls side, senior Mia Hernandez won a pair of events. She took home the top spot in the pole vault at 8-9 and she set a personal best in the high jump at 4-10.
Kiana Head was second in the high jump with a mark of 4-6 and was second in the triple jump with a leap of 30-2. Tariana Weatherspoon (4-4) and Janiece Washington (3-10) were third and seventh in the high jump.
Ashlyn Bottoms (8-0), Hannah Thompson (7-6), Ashley Rookstool (7-0) and Elma Jimenez (6-6) were second, third, fourth and fifth in the pole vault. Kalani Arriola (12-10.50), Weatherspoon (12-9.50) and Isabella Bartell (10.5.50) all set personal bests in the long jump to finish third, fourth and 11th.
Caryn Sanchez finished in the runner-up spot in the discus with a throw of 87-8.50 and teammate Angelica Leon (80-4.5) was fifth. Abagail Magana set a personal best in the shot put to place seventh at 24-9 and Megan Cabada was ninth with a personal-best throw of 24-3.50.
Kepa Hilbish (13.94), Adajah Milam (14.40) and Violet Amato (14.54) were third, ninth and 10th in the 100 meters.
Maite Avalos (29.02), Milam (29.80) and Athena Chiaratti (30.20) set personal bests in the 200 meters to place third, fifth and eighth.
Hilbish (1:12.13) and Damiena Mentaberry (1:14.33) were fourth and fifth in the 400 meters with personal best times. Elizabeth Carrillo (1:15.29) and Irydianna Ramirez (1:18.70) were sixth and ninth in the 400 meters.
Brooklyn Swensen set personal bests in the 1,600 meters to place fifth at 6:41.82 and she was sixth in the 800 meters at 2:56.03.
Avalos finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 18.43 and Bottoms was seventh with a personal best time of 20.17.
Avalos (57.32) and Bottoms (57.69) were fourth and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles, both personal bests.
The 4x400 relay of Ramirez, Carrillo, Milam and Head won with a time of 4:57.
The 4x200 relay of Milam, Mentaberry, Chiaratti and Alivia Galvan were second at 2:05.06.
Elko won the team title in both the boys and girls divisions, followed by Lowry and Battle Mountain.
Lowry travels to Minden on Saturday for the Big George Invitational.
