Edgmon, Lee compete at NJHFR in Georgia

Caleb Edgmon and Stix Lee’s success in May’s state rodeo finals earned them a ticket to last month’s National Junior High Finals Rodeo at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry, Ga.

Lee finished 18th in the boys breakaway with an average score of 6.98 points, less than one point from the top performer, and 21st in the goat tying with an average of 24.31.

Edgmon finished 12th in chute dogging with an average of 13.26, 38th in ribbon roping with an average of 35.78.

The duo finished 60th in the team roping with an average of 21.04.

Only the top four advanced to the national rodeo for both high school and middle school competitors while those who placed fifth through 25th were invited to the Silver State International Rodeo, which started on Wednesday, in Winnemucca.

In May’s state finals in Winnemucca, Lee won the ribbon roping with 349 points, finished second with 371 in breakaway, third in goat tying with 337 and 12th in chute dogging with 58. Caleb Edgmon won chute dogging with 415 points, finished fourth with 285 in the breakaway and seventh in ribbon roping with 280.5.

Lee and Edgmon teamed up to win the roping event with 391 points.

Also competing in the middle school division, Lauren Goings finished 16th with 49 points in the breakaway and 16th in team roping with 136.5, and 28th with two points in barrel racing. Addilyn Flower finished 27th with six points in pole bending, but she didn’t score in barrel racing or goat tying.

In the high school division, the team of Jarrett and Wyatt Peek finished fifth with 285 points after Garrett and Jace Jepson from Pahrump won it with 413. Wyatt Peek took third in tie-down roping with 100 points.

Wyatt Peek will compete in the National High School Finals Rodeo, July 16-22, at the Camplex Event Center in Gillette, Wyo.

Aubrey Fowler finished 22nd in pole bending with 34 points, 25th in goat tying with one point and 31st in barrel racing with three points.

Tator Nez finished fifth in bull riding with 116 points after Wells’ Eyer Morrison won the event with 290. He didn’t score in the saddle bronc.

Kassidy Talbott didn’t score in team roping or goat tying.
