Fallon Elks Lodge #2239 commemorated the 140th birthday of the “Stars and Stripes” June 14 at the city hall’s courtyard.
The Elks conduct the ceremony annually “to honor our country’s flag, to celebrate the anniversary of its birth and to recall the achievements attained beneath its folds.”
Elks Lecturing Knight Sarena Whisenhunt, Loyal Knight Nancy Balash, Leading Knight Gary Butori Per, Lead Knight Ron LaValley and Esquire Jim Alexander presented a retelling of significant moments in the American flag’s history. Chaplain Ed McFeaters gave the invocation.
Representations of the flag at each point in history were carried in and posted by members of Boy Scouts Troop 1776.
Attendees were provided with small American Flag pins and participated in a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
