Col. Curry’s residence: An excellent sidewalk is being dumped in front of Col. Curry’s residence. It is from the sand that is used in mixing mortar for the new railroad machine and car shops. This sort of gravel being all granite will make an excellent walk — just the thing to fix up the walks in Capitol Square.

Suicide: A man in San Francisco committed suicide because he knew so many people that he was struck by a dozen men a day for 50 cents. The bee thinks it is no wonder that he sought refuge in the heavenly gates. If Nevada people were to kill themselves on such a slight provocation, the state would be a vast cemetery.

All sorts: A mare on B.H. Reymer’s ranch gave birth to twin colts — one horse and one mule. The latter lived but a short time. (Mason Valley Tidings)

Cherry Creek: The Glasgow and Western Company located near Golconda will be shortly blown in. Ore will be supplied from the local mines as well as from the Star Mine, owned by the same company at Cherry Creek. The property formerly belonged to Patrick Lannon, formerly the owner of the Salt Lake Tribune.

The badly overcrowded condition will be corrected with a new firehouse soon as the legislature approved $50,000 as the building is expected to reach $100,000 when completed (in back of the courthouse).

Born: At McBride’s Ranch, Benton, on the 14th of March 1873, to the wife of William McBride, a son, weighing sixteen pounds.

Glenbrook drowning: McDonnel, a young boy, was drowned at Glenbrook. He was the son of a family who had resided in the place but a short time. His father was employed in the mill. He was seven years old and having been left to play on the edge of the wharf was missed. A few hours later the boy was found dead in the water. He was buried Monday.

Moved: The Carson Appeal has moved its quarters and is now located next to Wells Fargo and Co’s. office. If reports be true, the removal was probably a case of necessity. (Reno Journal). The Carson Appeal is unable to just figure out what that means unless the increase of business during the past six-months has necessitated larger quarters.

Better times: There are indications of better times for the old camp of Cherry Creek in White Pine County where the construction of a twenty-stamp mill will soon be commenced.

Greeno Hotel (now the Brick): Construction of an addition to the Greeno Hotel is coming along nicely according to the proprietor Harold L. Greeno. The addition is a two-story structure covering a 30 x 60-foot area between the Pine Cone Café. Les Vannoy is the contractor.

Peacock in Carson: Jack Muller, our tonsorial friend, has imported a peacock from Virginia City and turned him loose in the yard. A splendid noble bird, fully developed and perfect in all respects, especially his tail. It has the most unearthly caterwauling.

Missing: Mr. Muller came into our offices to say that this noble bird is missing.

Killed while milking a cow: A Chinese person named Wang Hee died at Ben Markers from injuries he received the night before from a young bull on the ranch. It appears that there was a cow on the place that no one but Marker could milk because of the determined interference of its bull calf. It would fly into a rage whenever its mother was milked. The bull is now three years old. He is kept in an adjoining lot and when anyone approached the cow with a milk pail, the bull would fall into a terrible rage and its bellowing could be heard all over the ranch. The Chinese person started to milk the cow and the bull becoming very much excited, rushed to the fence as usual, but he paid no attention. Suddenly the bull retreated a few paces and lowering its head, charged for the fence, making a breach, and sending the fragments high in the air. The bull came headlong at the Chinese person, striking him in the head and side with its horns. The farms hands rushed out to find the bull tossing him in the air. The unfortunate man was taken in the house where he died.

Unsafe nitrate levels: Residents of the southeastern portion of Carson City (south of Koontz Lane) were told that there may be excessive levels of nitrate in the drinking water that could cause illness and death of infants under six months of age.
