Although the weather canceled the last week of the regular season, Fallon junior Ron Lee will represent the Greenwave in next week’s state tournament at the Toiyabe Golf Club in Washoe Valley.
Lee finished the season with a 91.3-stroke average and seven points through six tournaments and is one of the six golfers outside of the three qualifying teams who punched his ticket to state. Lee qualified as the final golfer after beating out Lowry’s Luke Laub in a tiebreaker.
Fernley’s Jacob Holmes finished with the best average during the season, carding a 78.2, and was named the MVP of the 3A Northern League. The Vaqueros also finished as the top team – one point head of Truckee, 48-47. Elko was the third-best team with 43 points. Fallon finished sixth at 25 points.
Lee will tee off on May 16 at 10:48 a.m. on the first day of the two-day tournament at the Washoe Valley golf course, which sits on the west side of I-580 and across from Washoe Lake near Carson City. Tee times for the second day will not be available until the conclusion of the first day.
Track: Greenwave qualifiers for 3A regional finals
Five individuals qualified for this weekend’s 3A Northern League Track and Field Championships.
Competing in Saturday’s trials, which narrowed the field in each event to the top performers, Fallon’s Max McCoy (100 meters, 200) and William Brim Klein (300 hurdles) advanced in the track events while Braden Hendrix (long and triple jumps), Bransyn Wright (triple jump) and Kaeden Simpson (high jump) will represent in the field events.
Fallon will also aim to qualify for state in four relay events, which were not run during the trials.
The top-four individuals in their events and top-four teams in each relay event will advance to the state meet, which is May 19-20 at Liberty High School in Las Vegas.
For the sprint and hurdle events, the heat winner and next fastest times to fill an eight-lane final advanced from the trials. For distance events, the top-two finishers in each heat and the next fastest times to fill out a 12-person final advanced to the final.
McCoy, who won his heat to qualify, ran the second-fastest time in the 100, clocking in at 11.45 seconds after Sparks senior Tyrus Allen posted an 11.43. McCoy, who won his heat to qualify, finished fifth in the 200 with a time of 23.88 and was 0.03 seconds shy of fourth.

In the field events, Fallon advanced three. The top-nine marks plus ties advanced to the finals. Trials marks do not carry over to the finals.
