The Greenwave track and field season will continue for one of its members after several nearly qualified for this week’s state meet in Henderson.

Fallon junior Max McCoy punched his ticket Friday when he finished second in the 100-meter dash in 11.39 seconds. Sparks senior Tyrus Allen won the event in 11:32. McCoy nearly advanced in the 200 but finished 0.16 seconds shy of fourth (23.36).

The top four finishers advanced to state, which is Friday and Saturday at Liberty High School in Henderson.

The only competitor for the Fallon girls, junior Jessalyn Lewis, nearly completed an impressive comeback. After jumping 27 feet, 10 inches to qualify for the regional finals in the triple jump, she leaped 31-0.5 on Saturday to finish 2 inches shy of going to state for the second year in a row.

Other results for Greenwave athletes included:

• Fallon senior William Brim-Klein shaved a second off his trials time to finish sixth in the 300 hurdles in 43.68. The fourth-best time to qualify was 42.64.

• In the relays, the 4x200 team finished fifth in 1:35.12 as Spring Creek finished fourth in 1:34.26. The 4x100 relay team finished sixth in 46.15 seconds, 0.75 away from going to state. The 4x400 team finished sixth in 3:42.12, about 7 seconds from needing to place in the top four. The 4x800 team finished fifth in 8:54.86 but needed to shave 12 seconds to place in the top four.

• Bransyn Wright, the only freshman to compete in the finals of the triple jump, leaped almost 2 feet better than last weekend to take sixth at 37-6.

• Junior Braden Hendrix improved on both his place and time from the previous week’s trial, finishing eighth in the long jump at 17-9, two inches better than last week. He also finished eighth in the triple jump at 37-2.5, which was almost 4 inches better than last week’s trial jump.

• Junior Kneden Simpson finished 10th in the high jump at 5-4.

• Fallon sophomore Tyler Huckaby edged teammate and fellow sophomore Dallin West, 12:49.14 to 12:49.19, in the 3,200 as they finished 21st and 22nd. The top time was 9:41.91.
