The Nevada Library Association will gather members for its 75th annual conference, Sunday through Tuesday at Carson City’s Brewery Arts Center.
The conference program features acclaimed mediator, and Washoe County’s Neighborhood Mediation Center executive director Mark Batson Baril. Addressing conflict resolution at the library, Baril will discuss lessons and success stories.
He will center Monday’s keynote activities on mediation best practices and how to apply them throughout all domains of modern librarianship. Tuesday’s showcase from local Apryl Stott, a New York Times bestselling children’s author and illustrator, promises lively discussion and questions and answers about the art of social emotional intelligence.
NLAs annual conference program focuses on the many ways libraries and librarians improve Nevada’s communities. Innovative workshops and initiatives are slated for the program.
The annual meeting begins at 6 p.m. with a welcome reception on Sunday at the Carson City Library. Additional highlights include Public Library Trustee training, robust sessions on a wide range of topics and annual awards including the 2023 Librarian of the Year. Also, in honor of 75 years of Nevada librarianship, the president’s events feature a NLA benefit concert with tickets open to the public.
The benefit concert will be held Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center’s Performance Hall, featuring Margo Cilker and An American Forrest.
A conference badge or a public admission receipt printed or visible on a mobile device must be shown. For all paid conference attendees, the performance is included. The public may purchase seats for $25. Proceeds will benefit the NLA Scholarship Fund.
