Carson City’s P.K. O’Neill has announced he will seek re-election for the Assembly District 40 seat of the Nevada Legislature.

A more than 40-year resident of Carson City, O’Neill has served for three regular sessions and three special sessions of the Legislature. The Republican currently serves as minority leader.

"It has been a tremendous honor to not only represent my constituents but also to lead the Assembly Republican caucus during the last session. However, there is much work yet to be done,” O’Neill said in a news release. “Today, I am thrilled and invigorated to announce my intention to seek re-election. Our goal is to strengthen our Republican caucus, support our governor, and contribute to a better Nevada."

O’Neill retired as division chief from the Nevada Department of Public Safety before entering public service.

"While leading the Assembly caucus during the legislative session is an incredible honor, we must also confront the significant challenges we face when it comes to protecting Nevadans from bad legislation,” said O’Neill. “Our caucus has experienced declining membership for far too long and losing seats is simply unacceptable. Our caucus' objective is to expand its ranks so that we can champion sound legislation and support our governor in defeating unfavorable proposals moving forward."

He and his wife, Nancy have four adult children and six grandchildren.
