Signaling the start of the holiday season, the Salvation Army Carson City Corps, in partnership with Max Casino, has scheduled the 26th annual turkey drop for 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
The event will take place at Max Casino located at 900 S. Carson St.
“This event offers a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and support those in need during the holiday season,” said Immanuel Beeson, who, along with wife Holly, co-captains the Salvation Army in the capital city. “We will be accepting both food and monetary donations at Max Casino during the specified dates and times. Your contribution will significantly contribute to ensuring food security for families in our area.”
In addition to turkeys, the Salvation Army will accept nonperishable foods during the drive.
The local arm of the worldwide religious charitable organization is also preparing its annual “Red Kettle” campaign, which Beeson said is the organization’s largest fundraiser. The kettles posted at the entrance of grocery stores are a common sight during the holiday season.
“We invite local community members to join us in ringing bells at various stores throughout town,” Beeson said by email. “This campaign not only raises vital funds, but also brings joy and a sense of community spirit to all who participate. We have both paid and volunteer positions available, and we appreciate any assistance you can provide. By minimizing our hourly wage expenses, we can allocate more resources back into the community, making a lasting impact.”
Beeson said the Salvation Army has begun accepting sign-ups for Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance.
“The Salvation Army provides assistance with food, toy and clothes during the holidays. If you or someone you know is in need of holiday support, we encourage you to contact the Salvation Army at 775-887-9120,” he said. “Our team is dedicated to ensuring that everyone can experience the joy and warmth of the holiday season, and we are here to provide the necessary assistance.”
Beeson thanked the community for supporting the organization’s “mission to serve those in need.”
“Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families within our community during this special time of year,” he said.
