The Carson City Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit has added two K-9 teams.

The latest additions have completed K-9 school and are deployed to the patrol division of the sheriff’s office.

The addition maintains CCSO at seven dog teams. The office hopes to add an eighth team to provide full-time coverage for the community.

K-9 Kato is an 18-month-old Dutch Shepherd assigned to Deputy Jeff Pullen. He is a dual purpose K-9, trained to detect narcotics, apprehend suspects and track. Pullen is CCSO’s senior handler and trainer. He has been a handler for 18 years, and K-9 Kato will be his fourth dog team. Pullen is regionally recognized as an expert in K-9, and he’s personally trained and certified dozens of regional dog teams.

K-9 Conan is an 18-month-old Belgian Malinois, and he is similarly trained as a dual purpose K-9. His handler, Deputy Myles Foutz, has nearly a decade of law enforcement experience. Foutz is relied upon to train new deputies in the patrol division. He also is an active member of the CCSO SWAT team, and is also a military reserve in the Army National Guard.
