The Nevada State Museum and Northern Nevada Coin are bringing back what organizers call a beloved event: the Carson City Mint Coin Show, planned for Sept. 20-21.

“Twelve coin and jewelry dealers from across the west will be on-site with some of their finest finds for sale. To kick-off the festivities the museum will be formally opening its new ‘Mint to Museum’ exhibit, which tells the story of how the museum started as a branch of the U.S. Mint and eventually became the Nevada State Museum,” museum officials said in a news release.

History Curator Emeritus Bob Nylen will be on hand to tell stories of the history of the museum, and historic Coin Press No. 1 will be minting commemorative replicas of the “Liberty Seated” medallion on pure, Nevada-sourced silver throughout the show, according to the release.

The show and exhibit are open to the public. The exhibit ribbon cutting will be at 9:30 a.m. followed by the coin show at 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the south gallery of the museum, 600 N. Carson St., on Sept. 20. The show will continue 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 21.

The show and the ribbon cutting are included in museum admission, which means those 17 and under are free, those 18 and over are $10/person, and the events are free for museum members, according to the release.

“The Nevada State Museum is excited to celebrate our history in the new ‘Mint to Museum’ exhibition. We are also really excited to work with Northern Nevada Coin to bring back a staple in the Nevada coin collecting world in hosting a coin show. These vendors are bringing some of the very best in western coins and collectibles. We hope the public is ready to come see these gems,” said NSM Director Josh Bonde.

“I am super excited to have a show in the former Carson City Mint again. Everyone loves when history and coins come together in such a unique setting, and the buzz about the show is getting louder as it approaches,” added Allen Rowe, owner of Northern Nevada Coin.
