CHS track opens season in Minden

Carson High track and field got its outdoor season underway Thursday at Douglas High School.

It was a limited meet, featuring just the two programs.

On the boys side, Jacob Weninger was first in the 100-meter and second in the 200-meter dash in times of 11.51 and 23.89.

Junior Kekoa Mitchell was second in the 400 in 57.24 while taking third in the 100.

Mitchell also won the discus event with a throw of 122 feet. 

Sawyer Macy won the 800 and 1,600 in 2:06.77 and 4:38.23, respectively.

Senior John Pinto crossed the line in 50.35 to win the 300-meter hurdles.

Sam Richetta and Ryan Barbarigos were first and third in the shot put as Richetta won the event with a throw of 38 feet, 9.75 inches.

Jaren Thornburn cleared five feet, eight inches in the high jump to win by six inches.

Sophomore Mark Walther was second in the pole vault with a clearance of 9 feet.

Junior Aaron Witt took second in the long jump with a mark of 16 feet, 11.5 inches. Witt also won the triple jump at 38 feet, 5 inches.

For the Senator girls, freshman Allison Peachay was third in the 100 in 13.72 and second in the 200 in 28.20.

Kaylynn Bloomfield and Hailey Zich went 1-2 in the 400, finishing within three-tenths of a second.

A trio of Senators were at the top of the 1,600 finishers in Vea Miner (first), Brianna Rodriguez-Nunez (second) and Natasia Sulprizio (third).

Junior Anne Davis and sophomore Lillian Turner were second and third in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.08 and 18.74, respectively.

Freshman Julie Salanoa was third in the shot put (27-7.25) while fellow freshman Emjae Salanoa was second in the discus (69-9).


Carson baseball falls late to Fallon

Carson and Fallon were scoreless through four innings Thursday before the Greenwave claimed a 6-4 win.

After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the fifth, Carson rallied with four runs in the home half of the inning.

Marcus Montes and Tyler LaFollette were able to draw bases loaded walks to tie the game at 2-2. Montes also served as the Senators’ starting pitcher, going five innings while allowing three hits and two earned runs.

Ethan Cook followed with a two-run single through the left side of the infield to give the Senators a 4-2 lead.

However, Carson allowed three runs in the sixth and another in the seventh.

UP NEXT: Carson (0-1) will get a week off before traveling to Peccole Park at the University of Nevada to take on Douglas Monday, March 11 at 6 p.m.
