Letter: Blowing smoke

Gun control advocates ignore the obvious.

• Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.

• Laws only deter the lawful, criminals by definition do not obey laws.

• Cities with the most restrictive gun laws have some of the worst crime and homicide rates.

• Long guns, a classification that includes assault-style weapons, account for less than 4% of all homicides.

• The Second Amendment was not written to preserve hunting and shooting sports. It was written to shield us from government tyranny.

• In the last century alone, more than 100 million people were murdered by authoritarian regimes after they were disarmed.

• An armed citizenry deters crime and tyrants alike.

• We don’t need more laws; we need to enforce the laws on the books. Until Hunter Biden is prosecuted for illegally purchasing a hand gun, any talk of new laws is just blowing smoke.

• Mental illness and drug use contribute mightily to the rash of homicides, the last few mass shootings were perpetrated by individuals who were full of trans-hormones.

• If the DOJ focused their efforts on criminals and the mentally ill instead of parents at school boards, perhaps homicides could be reduced without infringing on our inalienable right to self-defense.

Honestly, this concern for life seems disingenuous considering the left’s embrace of late- and post-term abortions. If you really want to save lives, close the border and stop the flow of fentanyl.
