The Fourth of July fireworks show in Carson City is changing locations — the launch site moving from near Mills Park to Eagle Valley Golf Course — but organizers hope the wow factor remains and people come out to celebrate.
“We need this location to work because we exhausted so many locations. We really need this to work if we want to continue to have fireworks in the capital,” said Molly Walt, CEO of Nevada Rural Counties Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).
The nonprofit organization, which recently celebrated 50 years, has organized the fireworks show for more than 30 years with the launch site close to Carson High, setting up great visibility from Mills Park, Walt said. However, with new homes being built near the high school, the organization had to find another location. And because the show is more than 20 minutes long (costing $1,000 a minute) and uses large firework products, the new location needed to have enough clear space, Walt explained.
Walt said the nonprofit received a permit from the city three weeks ago for the new launch site at Eagle Valley Golf Course.
“Will it still be visible from Mills Park? Probably. It’s just not going to be as close,” she said.
Nevada Rural Counties RSVP will host a golf tournament fundraiser, dinner and VIP fireworks viewing on the Fourth of July holiday.
“Whether you’re an avid golfer or simply looking to enjoy an evening of delicious food and spectacular fireworks, there’s something for everyone at this event,” the nonprofit said in a news release.
Eagle Valley Golf Course is located at 3999 Centennial Park Drive. The golf tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 2:30 p.m., and the tournament “promises to be a competitive and enjoyable experience for golfers of all skill levels,” according to the release.
“If golf isn’t your thing, join us for a delightful dinner and a VIP viewing of the fireworks show,” organizers said. “The dinner will commence at 6 p.m., featuring a sumptuous menu prepared by Duncan Golf. Following the dinner, guests will be treated to a VIP viewing of the 4th of July fireworks show, offering the best seats in the house to enjoy the dazzling display.”
Walt said families can still go to Mills Park for picnics and activities and can watch fireworks from there or drive closer once they start.
