The Carson City Board of Supervisors is trying to find people interested in two committees.

The board is seeking applications for the Carson City Cultural Commission whose purpose is “to serve as the official adviser to the Carson City Board of Supervisors on matters related to the cultural life of the community,” according to a news release.

There are three open positions to fill full terms expiring in January 2028.

For the citizen-at-large positions, the requirements, according to the city, are: “(1) Be residents of Carson City; (2) Have a broad and informed perspective of the arts along with a demonstrated knowledge and responsiveness to the existing arts community and community at-large; (3) Represent a cross section of the city's age, multi-cultural, socio-economic, professional, artistic and volunteer diversity; and (4) Have an appreciation for Carson City's rich cultural tradition.”

Youth representatives (18-25-year-old college students or young art advocates), art professionals (employment in a commercial or nonprofit arts organization), and business professionals (non-arts business owner or staff) are encouraged to apply.

The commission meetings are held at least quarterly, lasting up to three hours. Additional time may be spent on special projects and sub-committee work. Applicants should be prepared for a minimum commitment of up to 10 hours a month.

Applicants must be a Carson City registered voter to qualify, the release further stated, and all members serve without compensation.

Applications will be accepted until Nov. 29. Interviews are planned to be held at the Dec. 19 board meeting.

Supervisors are also seeking applications from individuals interested in serving on the Audit Committee as a citizen-at-large. There are two open positions, each to fill a term that ends in December 2026.

Applicants must be residents of Carson City, “have experience in financial services, public accounting, and/or governmental auditing, and current knowledge of public laws and regulations governing an audit committee,” and “shall not accept any consulting, advisory, or other compensatory fees from the city and may not be an affiliated person with the city or any subsidiary thereof,” according to a news release.

“The role of the Carson City Audit Committee is to maintain oversight of the auditing function, internal and external, resulting in increased integrity and efficiency of the audit processes for the city and the city’s system of internal controls and financial reporting,” the release said.

Committee meetings are held at least quarterly. Applicants should be prepared for a minimum commitment of up to three hours a month. The members serve without compensation. Applications will be accepted until Nov. 29. Interviews for this volunteer position are tentatively planned to be held at the Dec. 19 board meeting.

Applications for city committees are considered public information.
