The Wave volleyball team extended its winning streak to four after sweeping South Tahoe and Lowry at home last week.
With two matches left in the regular season —at home against Fernley and Dayton this week — Fallon is in next week’s regional tournament but the seeding is up in the air.
Spring Creek (7-2) leads the 3A East over Fernley (6-2), and Elko (6-3) also has a 0.5-game lead over Fallon (6-2). Elko and Spring Creek face each other to end the season while Fernley also has a match against Dayton.
For Fallon to win the league, it would need to sweep and have Elko beat Spring Creek because of the tiebreakers. A Fallon sweep regardless would put the team no worse than second, but it would need to beat Fernley in three or four sets to avoid finishing in fourth.
On LeAnne Strong Night, a fundraiser honoring Fallon’s LeAnne Wallace, who is battling leukemia with all proceeds benefiting the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation, Fallon came out swinging against South Tahoe on Tuesday with a 25-11, 25-11 and 25-17 win.
Raegan Johnson led the team with nine kills and Alexis Haggard had five. Kenda Dodge, Halle Johnson and Dylan Faught each added three. Raegan Johnson also led in aces with four while Brynlee Nichols and Layla Walker each had two. Johnson finished with a team-high three blocks as seven players each recorded a block, including Vernita Fillmore, Leah Sorensen, Halle Johnson, Haggard, Dodge, Nichols and Faught.
Faught led the team in digs with nine, Fillmore had six and Raygen Bartel added five. Fillmore dished out a team-high 17 assists.
