Carson City man arrested after shooting Wednesday morning

A Carson City man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of attempted murder after a shooting earlier in the day.

Fernando Luna-Ortiz, 41, was arrested at 10:33 a.m. after a traffic stop.

Luna was the suspect in a shooting which occurred between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. in the 3400 block of Champion Drive in east Carson City.

Deputies were called to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center at 2:10 a.m. after a victim with a gunshot wound to the leg arrived.

After finding the location of the shooting, investigators from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada Division of Investigation executed search warrants in the 3500 block of Otha Lane and 3400 block of Champion Drive.

The crime scene was processed, and the firearm used in the shooting was recovered.

Luna is being held at the Carson City Jail on the suspicion of the following charges:¨

• Attempted murder with a deadly weapon

• Battery with a Deadly Weapon

• Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm

• Discharging a Firearm within City Limits

Luna is being held on $250,000 bond.
