Carson puts 11 on all-region teams

The 2024-25 all-region wrestling teams for Northern Nevada’s Class 5A were littered with area athletes.

The teams, which were released this week, are decided based on how individuals finish at the regional tournament.

In total, 25 wrestlers from Carson and Douglas High schools were awarded all-region honors.


WRESTLER OF THE YEAR

Leading the way in all-region honors was 190-pound regional champ, JT Heaton.

The Carson High School senior went 3-0 en route to his regional championship before going 4-1 at state, placing third.
Joining Heaton on the first team all-region squad were teammates Jesse Oliva (113 pounds), Keona Basa (126), Jett Rupert (138), Damian Porter (165), Konnor Crisp (175) and Dominic Porter (285).

Matthew Manley (132), Ean Thomas (157), Ethan Linehan (190) and Iziah Oliva (215) were all named to the all-region second team for finishing fourth through sixth at the regional tournament.

For Douglas, the Tigers’ first team all-region selections consisted of senior Cody Highfill (120), freshman Hunter Smokey (144), Kolton Zinn (150) and Izaak Conkle (175).

Six Douglas wrestlers qualified for the second team list: Uriah Brady (106), Kai Blumenthal (148), Spencer Roussel (144), Vincent Cereghino (150), Jesse Reiner (165) and Raiden Barnes (215).

GIRLS ALL-REGION

Three Douglas girls wrestlers were named to the all-region squads.

The Tigers’ earned a first team nod at 105 pounds in regional and state champ Ella Kavanagh, who concluded her junior season.

Freshman River Klein was also chosen as a first team all-region choice at 110 pounds for her second place finish at regionals.

Mica Klein grabbed a second team all-region nod at 145 pounds.
