On Oct. 14, 2015, I met “Carson City’s oldest adopted son,” Charles T. Sehe. Pat and Derrel Fike had been corresponding with Charles who had expressed his bucket list item to visit Carson City and meet Gov. Brian Sandoval.

Carson City is in the process of becoming a pickleball destination thanks to passionate players, a local nonprofit and the support of the Board of Supervisors. Thursday, supervisors unanimously approved a $1.07 million contract with Spanish Springs Construction Inc. to replace two dilapidated tennis courts behind the aquatic center in Mills Park with six post-tension-concrete pickleball courts. Both for the contract and for approval of $170,790 in Community Development Block Grant funding for the project, the audience in the boardroom broke into applause.

Preliminary results from Tuesday’s general election show the Carson City School Board will welcome Michelle Pedersen and Rebecca Roberts as incoming trustees and retain incumbent Mike Walker. Roberts, a Carson resident of 10 years who will represent District 2, ran unopposed and received 21,497 votes as of Thursday. She told the Appeal she appreciated the trust the community is placing in her to help make the best decisions for their children.
The majority of Carson City voters appear to have embraced the current composition of the Board of Supervisors even as they shot down two tax proposals to fund local roads. Preliminary results released by the Clerk-Recorder’s Office on Tuesday night show incumbent Mayor Lori Bagwell with a large lead along with incumbent Ward 4 Supervisor Lisa Schuette.
First Judicial District Court Judge Kristin Luis, Department 2, recently completed the General Jurisdiction: Advanced program, a two-week course designed for district court judges at the National Judicial College, city officials said in a news release.
