Obituary: Allen E. Hartman

Allen E. Hartman, 72, a Gardnerville resident for the past two years, died April 14, 2000, at Washoe Medical Center. He was born Dec. 30, 1927, in Elizabeth, Pa., to Charles and Ruby Monheim Hartman.

He married Elaine N. Fox Sept. 8. 1963, in Pasadena, Calif.

Before moving to Gardnerville, he lived in Burbank, Calif.

Mr. Hartman was known as "Uncle Al" from Uncle Al's Greenhouse. He was owner of The Sports Store in Simi Valley, Calif. and he was a ski instructor for 35 years. He also owned a hydroponic greenhouse in Gardnerville. He had been a musician in his youth and played the saxophone.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Brenna who died in 1996.

Among his survivors are his wife Elaine of Gardnerville; godchildren Dr. Scott Ellner of San Diego, Calif., and Jordan Ellner of Los Angeles.

No service will be held.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory

FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home, Gardnerville, is in charge of arrangements.
