Robert "Earl" Smith, 76, a Gardnerville resident for the past 10 years, died July 21, 200, at his home. He was born June 26, 1925, in Salem, Ohio, to Wilbur O. and Dora A. Johnson Smith.
Before moving to Gardnerville, he lived in Sacramento, Calif.
He married his wife Mary June 15, 1953, in Las Vegas.
Mr. Smith was a carpenter in the Sacramento area for 35 years. He was a lifetime member of the Sacramento Carpenters Local Brotherhood 586 and received his 50-year pin in 2001. He was also a lifetime member of the U.S. Submarine Veterans of World War II, Sacramento Chapter. He enjoyed taking his family fishing, Jeeping, camping and boating.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a submariner during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his sister Dawn Bray in 2000.
Among his survivors are his wife Mary of Gardnerville; son Robert "Rusty" of Placerville, Calif.; daughters Mary A. Alford of Sacramento and twin daughters Helyn M. Takemori-Peck of Elk Grove, Calif., and Cindy A. Riley of Sacramento; brother Wilbur E. of Nuevo, Calif.; sisters Alice Dick of Santa Fe, Tenn., and Phyllis Hoskins of Canyon Country, Calif.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A celebration of life will be at a later date.
